NME?

What the NME once stood for, is now dead and gone within its pages. No more words needed, the following picture explains.

  1. A hell of a demise since I first bought the magazine. Sad.

  2. Awful how much its gone down. Bias writing, shitty features and an obsession with the Libertines. I'd rather spend my £2 on itunes.

  3. So quick a demise as well? I remember when I started to buy it a few years ago it was still pretty good.

  4. Its the reviews that mainly piss me off now. Theres been bands who theyv'e broken all because theyve assigned a review to somebody who dislikes the band anyway. Case in point: Milburn. They were writing tunes PRIOR to the formation of the Arctic Monkeys, even teaching Matt Helders to drum, and yet the NME labelled them as "a band riding the coat tails and hijacking the sound of the arctic monkeys" I love the arctics, but its this kind of bollocks that can ruin a reputation and break very very good bands.

  5. I've always thought, what gives a journalist (usually failed musician) the right to talk down and analyse other peoples music?

That's why you'll never find any "reviews" as such on here.

  6. exactly. There was a point when i left school that I thought i wanted to get into music journalism. so glad i decided against it.

  8. Well, The Trip magazine having a go at NME magazine. Which one sells thousands of copies every week and has the backing of hundreds of rock stars? Which one has a couple of hits a day, and has the backing of an indie dj and a glamour model, both of whom are destined to fail? Well, there's only one winner here...

  9. we all fail if we sit on our derrières and slag off those attempting to do something. Id love to know what you mean by "fail". Georgia has been published in the countries top mens mag, has appeared on television AND has a fair few years left ahead of her to achieve even better things. As for us "failing" we dont have a great plan to become famous, we are absolutely happy playing to people who appreciate it in The Barrells. I dont mind you leaving your comments on other peoples opinions, but a personal attack is not something im that happy to be on the recieving end of. If your going to attack me personally, have the stones to leave your name... Not that we need it because we'v got a fair idea who you are anyway.

  10. That depends on your definition of failure, and of winning.
Not that I disagree entirely with your point - such direct criticism from one magazine about another is slightly dodgy territory and is always going to attract an argument.
But as far as I can tell, The Trip succeeds in its aims of giving aspiring writers and artists a platform to voice opinions and showcase their work. So what if it only gets 'a couple of hits a day'? Is success entirely based on how many people see something? Never mind the fact that The Trip is an entirely independent project that has only just begun to explore its potential for growth.
In terms of your personal attack on two individuals who you have judged 'destined to fail', I would question both how you happen to have come by this information regarding their futures, and whose measure of success you are judging them.
Of course, as you are posting anonymously you could actually be in possession of some device or spiritual means of knowing how someone's life is going to pan out - and if there is after all a God and you are actually her or him, well, stop wasting your time posting on a blog that has 'a couple of hits a day' and do something a bit more productive please.
When it comes to ideas of success or failure, I assume you're using a capitalist model in order to judge which is which, considering your assertion that the NME is more successful because it 'sells thousands of copies every week' and that its backers are more successful because they are 'rock stars'.
So you're assuming neither of these people will make any money from their interests as a dj and a model. Is this why either of them do what they do? Perhaps the fact that you even refer to them solely by those titles mean they have succeeded in what they are trying to be? Maybe neither of them ever intends to try and make a career out of their respective crafts. Perhaps success means having the chance to make a room full of people in a small East Coast town jump up and down to their favourite songs, rather than being a 'rock star'.
To be honest, failure is always more interesting anyway.

  11. I never knew I changed my job title to glamor model?

Tell you what though, I get my batch of singed posters out soon for the crowd of 15,000+ at Wembley arena next month, I'll save you one as your such a big fan of me. Oh and if you go on Sky channel SyFy around 9pm on the 21st of May you can see me live working for one of the UK's biggest MMA companies.

Destined to fail, I think not, destined to prove small minded idiots wrong, I think so.

Word of advice, don't judge others upon how you judge yourself.

  12. Anon has nothing better to do in their life than try and put down decent people, probably because their own life is sadly lacking and the only way to create a response from anyone is to verbally attack them. Chris is quite right, you don't have the 'stones' to leave your name as that would mean (most likely in this small town) a face-to-face confrontation and as you're a total coward you shy away from such things - simply put, you don't have the balls for it.
As for Georgia - she is not, as you succinctly put it, destined to fail, if anything her career is going from strength to strength and the best of it is? Georgia doesn’t give a toss about your childish ramblings as you can see from her post.
Although as Georgia’s mum I’d like to put you straight on a few things. Georgia does actually have a real job and it has a real contract with a real company, she’s living her dream, are you living yours? Georgia is soon to feature in magazine not only published here in the UK but also in Europe and the USA and it has nothing to do with glamour. I suggest you watch out for her on Sky television as that person who is ‘destined to fail’ will be appearing live in front of over 15,000 people, plus a worldwide television, live streaming internet audience – ain’t life a bitch.

  13. My dignity remains intact. I won't be taking my clothes off for a living, and find it cringe worthy any one does.

  14. Is that the best you can come back with, really?

And, let's face it, we all have a rough idea who you are anyway...

I don't remove my clothes for a living, you need to get your facts correct. Porn stars remove their clothes for a living, I am not a porn star, nor a glamour model.

In fact, tell me where I have removed my clothes to make a living? Lads mags? I never did them for a living and when I did features they were implied/covered up, not naked. I made my living from being a PROMOTIONS model, see I wrote it all big for you there so you understand. Now I make my living being contracted to a large company and what do you know, there is no nudity involved in that either.

Signed poster for you my friend, your probably like my number one fan your so obsessed with talking about me. Jeeeeeez!

My decision @Anonymous = pwned by Georgia...

  16. Can someone please tell me who made Mr 'Anonymous' all high and fucking mighty? Because surely someone who regards their own opinion so highly and is so eager to shoot down others should be someone we all know about? No?

And dignity in tact? There is no dignity in the way you set out to be so malicious to other people. fair enough, everyone has the right to an opinion, and the trip is quite forward and blunt in it's approach, which is bound to cause argument, but taking that opinion and using as a way to directly insult people is just down right horrible.

Karma is seriously going to arse rape you. And if not karma, probably someone who you insult face to face. But oh yeah, that would require growing a pair. Sorry mate.

  17. I reckon we'v said all that needs to be said. Whoever it is is probably thriving off the attention. Iv already spoken to one person who feels they have been incorrectly identified as the perpetrator, and I dont wish to become involved in a slanging match with somebody who is innocent for nothing other than petty comments by a faceless moron. If the person wishes to make themselves known to me then I will gladly chat to them about it, but until then, I consider myself over it! Zzzzzzzzing! x

  18. Lets just all be friends and stuff.

  19. Not sure about being friends like. Thats a bit far. I'm not willing to pledge such commitment.

  20. apologies for my earlier outburst, just winds me up all this! I'm agreed in that we should all be, not necessarily friends, but civil, and have discussions where they are due, not arguments x
