The Ride Journal
The Ride Journal is most definitely one of the most beautiful magazines I've clapped my eyes on. Printed on nice thick matte paper which only adds to the illustrious feel.
They say: “Born, as all good things are, out of a conversation over Mexican food and Pacifico beers, The Ride is an all encompassing read. We know that most people who share our obsession with bikes don’t want to be pigeon-holed as roadies, freeriders, track racers, BMXers, XC riders or even commuters. They are just riders. So we wanted to create something for them, and also for us. Something that crosses both cycling and international borders.”
The look of the mag was also high on their list of priorities, “As well as the incredible writing we also wanted the magazine to be equally strong visually. Artists, illustrators, photographers were all approached and they have helped give The Ride the stunning visual style it has.”
For the first 5 issues, I Love Dust have illustrated the cover and parts of the content too. Seriously, how amazing are these:
I Love Dust, say this on the matter, “We have been working alongside Andrew Diprose since the beginning of The Ride Journals life and have worked on 4 covers to date.
Each cover takes a look at different aspects of biking and is designed to reflect the season in which it is released.” All marvellous. Im the proud owner of issues 4 & 5.

FANTASTIC MAN
Men's style bible, Fantastic Man, features David Beckham on the front cover of its 13th issue. The worlds most famous man photographed by Alasdair McLellan at an East London pie and mash shop.
The DNA of the magazine has obviously influenced many of its competitors, and it continues to feel fresh, new and all round amazing. Michael Stipe, frontman of R.E.M. is also in there talking about his projects aside from the band, along with the owner of The Independant Evgeny Lebedev, and more.
Editorial design at its best I think. Loverly.

Team Evil's Cassette Tape Magazine
Cassette Tape Magazine is described by its creators Team Evil, as a "monstrously impractical publishing venture". If the name doesn't explain the concept clearly enough for you, it is a magazine inside a cassette tape box, hope that clears up the confusion there. I got my copy the other day, and its fantastic, if not disappointingly short, who am I to question such items of greatness though. There's ten articles in total, my favourite being number 04, a teaser for Team Evil #5, where they "explain every major war of the 20th Century in abridged form. While drunk." Can't wait for the full article.

All the pieces come from the Team's website www.teamevil.com.au which is regularly updated by the founder Mikolai Napieralski. I recently interviewed the chap on why he thought printed magazines were still being published, and his answers were great. He summed it up saying this, "It all comes back to having a physical, tangible product in your hands. Technically, I could store every book, album, videogame in my house on one laptop, but that would make for a pretty depressing house. Tangible products add character to our world in way that computers can’t, that’s why we keep buying them… at least those of us old enough to remember having them around."
Get your hands on one of these, I don't think they'll be available for purchase much longer.
